What is SD2?
SD2, or Shelter Dog to Service Dog TM is a program that rescues dogs from high-kill shelters and rehabilitates them into service dogs to fit the specific needs of an individual or group.
How do the dogs do it?
Our handlers are certified in Natural Canine Behavior Rehabilitation TM, a kind, gentle approach to behavior modification trademarked by United K9 Professionals, www.unitedk9professionals.com. The handlers are also trained on how to interpret the dog’s alert and children’s body language.
Who benefits from these services?
Our dogs serve special needs schools, war veterans, firefighters or fire houses, individuals with special needs (both emotional and physical), courtrooms, victims of assault and abuse, people with chronic diseases, hypoglycemia, seizures, diabetes, and more!
How can you help?
Your money can help train and certify a handler-dog pair in Natural Canine Behavior Rehabilitation, as well as Animal Adaptive Therapy, Therapeutic Facilitation, and Behavioral Intervention. It costs thousands of dollars for the handler and dog’s training and care. Training takes roughly 1-2 years.
